Dorry Macaulay studied violin at The Yehudi Menuhin School and the Royal Academy of Music. She studied composition with Malcolm Singer and Dominic Muldowney.
She is a multi-instrumentalist composer who specialises in writing for and recording strings - violin, viola and cello.
Her current role at multi-award winning podcast network Noiser, involves composing and recording soundtracks throughout each show, including theme tunes. Many of Noiser’s series have been aquired by BBC sounds. In 2023 Noiser hit a listenership milestone of over 13 million a month and has continued to grow.
Dorry’s television composition credits include a three part documentary series ‘The Vardys’ (Broadcast on ITV1). Her original work was used on Britain's Got Talent (ITV). She wrote much of the soundtrack for 'A Very British Appeal' ( an ITV documentary hosted by Rageh Omaar). She worked with Keaton Henson on the dark comedy-thriller series 'Passenger' (ITV1, ITVX and Britbox) which included credits for composing. She also wrote music for 'The real story of the Boston Strangler' ( ITV America and channel 5).
Some of the companies and charities that Dorry has composed for include Sony, BMW (music for the award winning 'Drive To Succeed' series), Spotify original podcasts, Tough Mudder, Lacoste, Fight Gravity Films, Mad Planet LTD , Orchard Studios Media LTD, DEC, Tearfund and Glass Entertainment.
As well as writing and recording her own music, Dorry records strings for singer-songwriters and composers writing for radio, TV and film. She has worked with Keaton Henson for many years on multiple projects including workshopping the strings for the film Supernova and she recently recorded violin and viola for his album Somnambulant Cycles including the lead single ‘Try’ which was recorded in Dorry’s home studio.
Other companies and artists that Dorry has recorded for include Oliver Baines, Isobel Waller Bridge ( BBC's Agatha Christie series 'Towards Zero'), the Wildlife Trust , Thomas Pink, Benji Merrison, Katie Chatburn, Lifford Shillingford, Charlotte Harding, The English National Ballet, Balletboyz and Strings and Tins.
Recent compositions include the theme tunes and much of the soundtrack for Sherlock Holmes short stories, narrated by Hugh Bonneville, ‘Pride and prejudice’ read by Julie Andrews, Charles Dicken’s Ghost Stories with Sir David Suchet (Agatha Christie’s Poirot) and ‘Real Vikings’ hosted by Iain Glen ( Game of Thrones).
Upcoming projects include the theme tune and sound track for Jane Austen’s ‘Emma’ narrated by Julie Andrews and the sound track for ‘Treasure Island’ read by Rupert Grint ( Harry Potter)
Her compositions and string recordings have been broadcast on TV and radio including on Comcast, NBC, SKY TV, E4, BBC Radio 2, 4 and 6, BBC 1 and 4, ITV, ITV America, ITV X, TBN and Britbox.
Venues in which Dorry’s music has been performed include The Royal Festival Hall, The Barbican Theatre, The Globe theatre and The London Palladium.
